Does a Low Carb Diet suit to Diabetics?

Even an extra ounce of sugar may soar up the blood sugar level for a diabetic patient. For them taking an extra step beyond and adhering to a genuinely low carb diet is none less than a boon.

A standard diabetes diet focuses mainly on low sugar intake, rather than carbohydrates. This is helpful in lessening diabetic attacks and keeping diabetes patients healthy, but more beneficial for these patients is strictly adhering to a low carb diet made for diabetics.

Diabetes and Carbohydrates

Diabetic patients have problems with sugar and sugar processing in the body. Even a little amount of extra sugar, in any form shoots the blood sugar levels and leaves sufferers of diabetes grounded. A low carb meal further reduce the amount of sugar in one's diet and is thus, highly beneficial for diabetic patients.

A Pancake Example

Carbohydrates are chemically sugars that don't taste sweet! Carbohydrates are broken into sugar while digestion. Thus, it might seem harmless but eating a stack of pancakes even without syrup is equally disastrous for someone who's diabetic because the pancake eventually breaks down to sugar similar to what that with syrup would have. And hence the harm is almost equivalent. A low carb diet meal would get you rid of all such hassles and confusions, as it is hassles carbs; it is a healthy diet option for diabetic patients.

An important factor for consideration when deciding on the low carb plan is the glycemic index of carbohydrates. All carbs do not have the same glycemic index. For e.g. White bread, because the grains in it are more refined, scores higher on the glycemic index than brown bread and thus affects blood sugar more than the same size serving of whole grains. Refined grains are worst than whole grains; all they have are empty calories that no one requires.
