For a diabetic patient, the low carb diet is of dual importance. A person suffering from diabetes should keep a strict check on the blood sugar level and hemoglobin count through A1c tests performed. Such a dieter should be seeking for low carb diet where the total cholesterol level has come down from the initial recorded level. The HDL level should increase however, the ratio among the HDL (good cholesterol) and total cholesterol should also be lesser. A check should also be posted on the dieter's triglycerides count which should have reduced noticeably.

A low carb diet even reduces the need and dependency on the medication for the diabetic or blood pressure patients. However, a doctor should be invariably referred before taking any such step. The low carb diet is highly beneficial provided adhered to strictly. The initial phase may be bothering to a few due to a constraint on the carb intake but may soon fade out.
