A high protein low carb diet has always been among favorites when it comes to loosing those extra inches. This favor is because as discovered ere that this diet not only posses least saturated fats which is closely associated with the heart diseases but also guarantees quick weight loss with its diet regimen.

Though there has always been a incertitude about the long term effects on health of the person following the high protein low carb diet regime and its short term weight loss benefits, the studies now reveal that the high protein low carb diets may not be quite so harmful as assumed and in fact may be of some benefit to the user. Although, further researches are being carried on to shed light on the same.

The concerns regarding the short term weight loss by a low carb high protein diet. The initial weight loss in this plan is due to loss of water weight. As the body starves of carbs it extracts energy from glycogen stores in the body. A gram of glycogen contains four grams of water attached which is lost when glycogen is exhausted resulting in the seemingly appealing weight loss. This loss in water replenishes and regain on resuming the carb intake. A high protein low carb diets would step-up the consumption of saturated fats and cholesterol which may make the dieter more prone to heart diseases and certain types of cancer.

The high protein low carb diet food consists of plenty of proteins such as meat and eggs with little or no carbohydrates such as bread, potatoes, pasta and rice on the menu list. Therefore, proteins such as red meats, fish, shellfish, eggs, cheese and poultry are included where as pasta, bread, fruits having refined sugar are neglected often in such diets.

According to skeptics, high protein low carb diet foods may lead to problems such as mood changes and craving for carbs and snacks. No evidence though to prove any such symptoms. So make that you select a healthy diet when opting for a high protein low carb diet.
