Botanical Name: Petroselinum sativum

Parsley is a very popular erect, biennial herb which grows to a height of twelve inches. Rich, green, dense leaves form a rosette base. Its aromatic leaves are used as culinary flavouring. Parsley comes in two forms, ruffled and Italian. Both are easily grown as indoor plants.

Parsley Benefits

Parsley is a diuretic (tending to increase the discharge of urine) herb, useful for kidney and urinary problems and water retention. It is also high in Vitamin A and Iron. Parsley also stimulates delayed menstruation and promotes menstrual flow.

The Parsley leaves are either eaten fresh in salads or steeped for tea. Both the fresh juice and a tea made from the leaves or seeds can be used to relieve oedema and stregthen digestion.

Parsley is a very effective remedy for bad breath. Boil 2 cups of water with coarsely chopped parsley sprigs and 2 or 3 whole cloves or a quarter tablespoon ground cloves. The mixture has to be stirred frequently while cooling. It is then strained and can be used as a mouthwash or gargle several times a day.
