Almost everyone wants to loose weight and stay fit, and for these there are umpteen number of diet options available. To choose among a multitude of these diet plans is a real tough task! However, the low carb protein diet has truly become incredibly popular, especially over the last few years.

About the Low Carb Protein Diet

A low carb protein diet is low on carbs and rich on proteins. This diet was mainly popular during the 70s, before saturated fat and heart disease became closely associated. Again this diet is gaining popularity mainly because of faster weight loss achieved by it.

Though the low carb diet helps in faster weight loss, this is mainly due to the water weight loss because of deficiency of carbs in the body. In absence of carbs body seeks energy from the glycogen stores. Each gram of glycogen has 4 gram of water attached to it which is lost. Though the weight loss rate is alluring but it should be remembered that it is due to loss of water.

What is in the Diet

The low carb protein diet are rich in proteins such as meat and eggs, but almost no carbohydrate such as potatoes, bread, pasta, or rice. Different versions of this diet recommend large quantities of proteins including red meat, fish, shellfish, poultry, eggs, and cheese, and foods with high carb content like refined sugar are prohibited.

According to Skeptics

According to skeptics, such diet leads to a modification in the fat cells of the body. Hence, when a person leaves such a diet regimen these cells accumulate more fat. Also, such a diet plan leads to mood changes such as irritation, frustration, irritability and craving for high carb foods and fatty snacks.

With the positives and negatives of such diet are known, you are best judge whether to go for such a diet or not.
